Hong Kong Stock Trading Guide & Order Types Explained

01 HK Stock Trading Guide

Step 1: Open Stocks

Open the BIT app and tap "Stocks".

Step 2: Open Market and select HK

Open "Market" and select "HK". Tap the search icon at the top right to search by stock name or code.

Step 3: Choose Buy or Sell

Open the stock's quotes page and tap "Buy" or "Sell" at the bottom.

Step 4: Choose an order type

Tap the order type dropdown in the order panel and select the type you need.

Step 5: Price and quantity

Enter the price and quantity required for your order type.

  • For board-lot orders, follow the minimum trading unit shown on screen.

  • Check the quantity you can buy or the shares available to sell.

  • Amounts are shown in HKD.

Step 6: Review and submit

Check the stock, buy or sell direction, order type, price and quantity. Tap "Preview" to review the order details if needed. Once confirmed, tap "Submit".

02 HK Stock Order Types Explained

Basic Orders

Order Type

Description

Auction Limit

Buy/Sell at a specific or better price in the pre-opening or closing auction session.

Auction

Buy/Sell at the final Indicative Equilibrium Price in the pre-opening or closing auction session.

Enhanced Limit

Buy/Sell at a specific or better price.

Market

Buy/Sell at the market price.

Limit

Buy/Sell at a specific or better price.

Special Limit Order

Transactions are executed at specified or better prices, and the unfilled portion will be automatically canceled if not immediately executed.

Odd Lot Order

Orders less than one board lot.

Conditional Orders

Order Type

Description

Buy if Touched

Set trigger price conditions, and once met, buy orders can be placed according to the set conditions.

Sell if Touched

Set trigger price conditions, and once met, sell orders can be placed according to the set conditions.

Trail to Buy

Buy based on tracking the rebound or fall amplitude of stock prices.

Trail to Sell

Sell based on tracking the rise or fall amplitude of stock prices.

Note: Triggering a conditional order submits an order; it does not mean the order has been filled.
