U.S. Fractional Share Trading Q&A

Updated this week

1. What are U.S. Fractional Shares

In U.S. stock trading, orders where the trading quantity is not a whole share are known as "U.S. fractional share" orders. For example, if a user account has $20 USD and submits an instruction to buy 0.1 shares of NVIDIA, it is considered a fractional share transaction. Fractional share trading can lower the barrier to entry for investors and allow for more flexible investment allocation. It is a more favorable investment method for stocks that have not split and have high face values.

2. Supported Trading Hours for Fractional Shares

Fractional share trading is restricted to trading during the market session only, and is not available during pre-market, after-hours, or night-market sessions.

3. Securities Supporting Fractional Share Trading

Securities that support fractional shares will display a fractional share icon in the top right corner of the quote page. You can also find securities that support fractional share trading by navigating to "Market > Screener" .

4. How to Submit a Fractional Share Order

You can submit a fractional share order by directly entering a decimal number in the trading quantity field on the trading page (supporting up to four decimal places).

5. Can I Short Fractional Shares

Fractional shares currently do not support short selling.

6. Notes on Placing Fractional Share Orders

  1. The minimum transaction amount for a single fractional share order must be at least USD 1.

  2. Fractional share orders only support Limit Orders and Market Orders, and do not currently support Conditional Orders.

7. Fractional Share Trading Platform Fee

0.99% × transaction amount, maximum platform fee of USD 0.99 per order.

Fractional share trading may have certain limitations compared to whole share trading, including but not limited to differences in voting rights, transferability, and trade execution methods. Related orders may be executed through aggregation and matching or by the broker using other mechanisms.
